So many entrepreneurs jump into business dreaming of having more family time, travel, and fun, but what often happens is the total opposite – we end up drowning in work, juggling social media shifts, and catering to less-than-ideal clients. So what do you do? Well, hit play and I’ll tell you exactly what I’ve done to build a business that supports my life (and not the other way around)!
My Story
I’ve been there. I remember pouring my heart into the business growing my Instagram, and email lists, and publishing blogs twice a week with the hope that I would attract the right audience who would eventually enroll in my coaching program 90 Days One Goal! Oh, this program was good! I would provide weekly coaching, full-blown strategy, an in-depth performance and business review, plus weeks of follow-up to make sure you were meeting your metrics and if not, I would work with you until you did (at no extra charge)! – but the sales for this program compared to the effort I was putting in to grow it? Was minuscule. And I felt frustrated!
But, I’ve learned a lot since then and one big lesson I got from that experience is to focus on the right tasks (aka master your 5% activities) because the amount of hours you work is NOT what makes you profitable. It’s completing work that adds to your profitability that makes the business profitable! So keep reading and I’ll show you exactly what I did to leave that rat race.
Delegate
My friend, delegation is your ticket to freedom in this game. Can you imagine how much more productive, energized, and prolific you’ll be once you have trustworthy and talented folks on your team helping you accomplish your objectives, bringing fresh ideas to the table, and running their department as if it were their business? It would not only give you your life back but it would free you up to master your craft and hone in on your specific genius so that the business flourishes in all areas. Now, you might be thinking, “Tee, I’m down! Where exactly do I find these people?” Hit play and I’ll tell you some sites I’ve used and some that other business friends have recommended!
Intentional Breaks
You know this Trailblazer! But it’s still important for us to address this because knowing doesn’t bring transformation. Application does. And most of us know that breaks are necessary but how many of us plug them into our schedule?
Working constantly without giving yourself time to rest only leads to burnout and stress (not to mention the physical ailments that can creep up on ya over time!). The irrefutable truth is that our body (yes, this includes our brain) NEEDS time off. But how do you do that when you have clients emailing you on the weekend, incomplete projects with fast-approaching deadlines, and a team that may have questions for you even though it’s after office hours? Well, this is when you up your self-discipline and throw in some boundaries!
If you know that health IS wealth and you are not the energizer bunny then schedule in fun, restful, off time for yourself and honor it. There are many ways to do this from turning off your work phone to blocking the email app from your devices on the weekend but regardless of how you choose to practice rest, you’ll want to be sure to communicate with your clients, team, friends, and family before implementing this so they don’t think you’re ghosting them or just MIA.
