92% of people fail to achieve their goals every single year. If you’re like me, you’re probably wondering why! We often view goal-achievement and success as some kind of elusive ideal that we can’t wait to experience someday, one day out into the future. But what if I told you if you did these 3 things over the next 90-days, you would be on track to crush your goal for this year? Would you believe me? Would you want to know what they are? Well, keep it locked and loaded because in this episode, I am spilling all the beans!
Your Game Plan
The third quarter of the year has started and if you’re like most struggling goal-getters, you’re probably playing catch up because let’s be honest, you haven’t been working towards your goals. Everything and everyone has been a priority but you. Your dreams, ideas, and inspiring aspirations have all taken a back seat to work, survival, and trying to make it through this seemingly never-ending pandemic.
You go from “thank God, it’s Friday!” to “oh Lord, it’s Monday” and no matter how hard you try, it feels like you just can’t get ahead. Friend, if that’s you, you’re going to LOVE this episode because I’m going to help you work through all this and get your life back on track once and for all. Whether you’re new here or you’ve been around from the beginning, you’ve heard me say at least once that in order for you to achieve your goals, you need a 90-day framework and here’s why!
Your Next 90-Days
Research shows that 92% of goal-getters fail to achieve their goals which means that traditional methods for goal setting and achievement (the 12-month framework that we were all taught) is not the most effective strategy for success. So if you’re serious about growing, living your unique purpose, and TRANSFORMATION, then breaking your goal down into 90-day chunks is the way to go!
Why 90-Days?
A 90-day goal provides a vision just far enough into the future that compels and challenges you to take action and helps you to ensure that you attain them because they are achievable! This motivates you to get started, which produces quick wins and micro progress which according to neuroscience releases dopamine in your brain and helps you to stay focused which leads to an increase in your performance and a boost in self-confidence.
It’s a win all around! This is why I talk about 90-day goals with you here all the time and teach my trailblazing clients and students exactly how to do it! There is no way I could run an online business, enjoy quality time with my sweet kids and family, and be a part of other incredible teams, projects, initiatives, and so on if I did not practice quarterly goal-setting in my own life! Having a 90-day goal allows you to see the big picture and have smaller plateaus to reach so it doesn’t feel so overwhelming! Now, I can already hear you asking “Tee, how do I get started? What are the first things I need to do?” So let’s get to work!

Number 1: Get Clear About Where You Are Going
Science has shown that goals are necessary to create a meaningful life and improve society as a whole and yet, 80% of people never set goals for themselves. And I remember I used to be in this boat because after “trying” and when I say trying, I mean writing down my goal, putting in minimal effort, and only doing things when I felt like it. So I wasn’t actually trying but you know, this is the story we tell ourselves when we are comfortable compromising and settling for the life we have. I was “trying” to achieve my goal for years until I finally gave up and told myself that goal-setting doesn’t work and it’s not for me.
Myth About Goal-Setting:
I believed the lie that success and achieving my goals required me to be smart, white, and privileged. I didn’t think I had the resources, intelligence, skills, or discipline necessary to achieve the basic things I wanted like getting my driver’s license and so I quit.
Now, obviously a lot has changed from then to now because I run a business that thrives on goal-setting and helps others to succeed with their purpose-aligned goals, but I totally understand why 92% of people quit. It feels too hard! It feels like too much work! When the pressure of life kicks in and you feel like you have no control over what’s happening to you, it’s easy to think that maybe this is all playing out exactly as it should and there is no point in dreaming about what’s possible, much less pursuing any goals.
The Beginning of Change:
One of the biggest shifts I experienced that busted a lot of these myths for me was getting clear about who I was and why I was here. When I began to understand that God made me for a reason and He had a plan in mind when He gave me the gifts and talents I have, put me in the body He put me in, and equipped me with this glorious personality. That revelation set me free.
I was free from the pressure to perform and to make my life a success because that’s what people say to do. I was free from the labels and expectations that everyone put on me and I was free to step into the truth of who I was and align my life with the original vision and intent God had for me when He placed me in my mother’s womb.
Now It’s Your Turn
So now, my question for you is: Where are you going? What are you creating over the next 90-days of your life? Maybe you’re not sure about your purpose and will spend more time uncovering that so you can create meaningful goals that inspire you. Maybe you are going to finally take the leap of faith you’ve been avoiding because of fear, self-doubt, or overthinking. Whatever it is, decide on a path and over these next 90-days, see it through to the finish line because anyone can start something but only true trailblazers finish what they start.

Number 2: Your KPI’s Matter
What are KPI’s? This is something I practice and teach all of my students and clients to understand before working towards achieving any goal whether it’s personal or business. KPI’s determine what you work on, when you work on them, and how quickly you get them done. These are your key performance indicators and they determine if you’re on track, if you’re being effective, and how long it will take for you to achieve your goal.
Oftentimes, 12-month goals seem so far away that you figure you can always start tomorrow and that’s how procrastination creeps in. 90 days hold you accountable to your long-range goals, but in smaller chunks, so you actually see results now. These results you create now are your KPI’s!
How To Identify Your KPI’s
Once you have a clear picture of your goal, ask yourself:
- If I only got one thing done this quarter, which target, activity, or result would have the biggest impact on the overall progress of my goal?
- What is the most important step I can take right now that will lead to my future success?
- What is my top priority over the next 90-days (3 months)?
This process is about breaking down your quarterly goals into a clear baby step action plan that you can diligently follow through with because we know from teachers like John Maxwell and Tony Robbins that today matters. Our choices and behaviors today are shaping the future world we live in. Without being intentional about how we use our time today, the habits we’re forming today, and the person we’re becoming today, we’re essentially forfeiting the possibility for a better future. KPI’s help us create this future now.
Number 3: Consistent Action
This is where your transformation begins. After you get clear on where you’re at, who you are, and where you’re going with your KPI’s and priorities in place, you can begin to take baby steps! This phase is all about steady progress, consistent effort, learning, growing, changing, and becoming.
Zig Ziglar said, “You don’t have to be great to start but you have to start to be great”. If you want to see transformation in your life over the next 90-days, are you willing to let go of the things that are not working for you? Are you willing to step into who you have been holding yourself back from becoming? Are you willing to confront the fears that have been following you around for the last few years keeping you stuck and isolated? Are you really committed to doing what it takes to build your dream, live your purpose, and be free?
So Now You Have A Choice
You can try to spend your next 90-days doing the same things you’ve always done which have gotten you to where you are today or you can set out on a new adventure where your growth is inevitable and a new chapter of your life begins. You don’t have to wait for a new year to write a new page. You don’t have to wait for your birthday to roll around to make new commitments and live by new standards.
You can decide that today is a new day and everything that happened the last time you tried to achieve your goal was all blessings and lessons in disguise! Leadership expert John Maxwell said, “The only guarantee for failure is to stop trying”. Are you going to stop trying or will you keep going for another 90-days? As always, I love you and I mean it! See ya next week Monday! If this was helpful for you, subscribe and share it with other trailblazers who could use this!
