How many of you have asked yourself this question in one form or another? It’s okay, no one can hear you, you can say “yes, I have!” we won’t judge you *wink*. I’ve asked myself this question many times throughout my goal crushing journey because, let’s face it, achieving your goals requires a lot of effort and on most days I just didn’t want to do it. So, let me ask you if I don’t get the results I want in my life is it my fault or can I blame it on other things?
You know what I’m talking about, maybe I can blame someone like God, after all, He made me this way, right? Plus, He owns the world! If there is something He wants me to have He’ll give it to me or He will make it easy for me to get it, right? Or what about my environment? Maybe I can blame my friends and family for not pushing me to pursue my goals and develop my potential. They of all people should know how much I want to achieve this goal and they should at least help me to stay motivated, right? Or what about my circumstances! Yes! If I didn’t lose my job, get sick, get a divorce, have kids, debt and everything else I would be ahead in life right now. I would be pursuing my goals enthusiastically with no baggage or extra mess to clean up.
These are just a few examples of the kind of stumbling blocks I help people to overcome every day. Is it your fault if you don’t achieve the results you want in life? Yes, and here’s why I say that (read this carefully). Everyone in the world has access to 24 hours a day. Whether your born rich or poor, white or black, in a wealthy country or in a politically corrupt country. We all have 24 hours at our disposal every day to spend in any way we choose.
Some people will use their time to play video games, watch what others are doing on social media, chill with friends, binge-watch movies, and so on. While others spend their time challenging their perspective of the world, learning about their industry, developing themselves (mentally and physically), networking, gaining experience in their field of interest, and do on.
Now simply based on this example which group of people do you think are in a better position to achieve their goals? The people who binge-watched movies or the people who spent their time developing themselves? The second group right!? Well, that’s the key right there.
Personal development is the key to achieving your goals. You will never get the results you want if you don’t develop your mind, character, skills, and abilities. There is no way around it! You will either pay for your goals in full or you will end up watching other people live your dreams. It really is that simple and it’s your choice.

Now, I understand that sometimes you can find yourself in a disadvantaged position. Trust me, I was born and raised by a single mom, I don’t know my dad, my mom passed away when I was 15 years old, I’ve been sexually abused, I know what it feels like to live in survival mode, waiting for your next pay cheque to roll in and still not have enough money to pay the bills, and so on. No one taught me about goal setting or personal development. No one showed me how to manage my money in a way that would help me to be productive or stable in life. My environment wasn’t conducive to helping me to become the person that I am today, but guess what, I am who I am despite my obstacles and disadvantages and maybe these challenges actually helped to develop my tenacity. Your struggle can either work for you or you can allow it to become a crutch and work against you.
There is a way out! Your story doesn’t have to end with you stuck in unproductive cycles. It took me some time, but I went from feeling like a rejected orphan to knowing that I am a valued and loved daughter. I stopped being careless with money, started listening to people who were financially wiser than I am and I simply applied the basic money principles they teach. Even to this day, I continue to develop my understanding of money and I’m currently enrolled in a money mindset shift program that is teaching me how to be even more efficient with money. Lol, the learning and personal growth never stops in my world.
I’m sure your story is different from mine but the basic principles are still there. You can go from struggling and not knowing where to start to being organized and having a plan that will get you exactly what you want. You might be thinking, “Tee, it’s not that easy. I’ve tried to improve my life before… nothing works for me.” Well, the truth is, nothing works unless you do and you have to give yourself time before you start expecting to see results. You will not lose 10 lbs in a day. You also won’t crush your goals overnight. You have to stick with it for the long haul.
Bonus: For Anyone Needing Encouragement
I know that taking responsibility for your life doesn’t feel good and you might think it’s a lot of pressure, but the truth is, it’s liberating. To know that you determine what happens next in your story, you decide whether you’re going to die in struggle or rise out of it, you choose what your next move is. That my friend is FREEDOM!
Make the most of your life by choosing to develop yourself starting today. Until next time, xo!
