It’s a new year and your mind is bubbling with fresh ideas and goals to crush before December catches up to you again. Whether your goal is to lose 10 lbs, increase your income, finally land your dream job, or officially launch your business, you’re going to need something more than just intense focus and fierce determination. You must turn the next 11 months into a clear blueprint that leads to achieving your goal(s).
What do I mean by this? It’s simple. For each month you need to pinpoint specific goals that you have to achieve in order for you to stay on the right path to achieving your goal by your set deadline.
Here’s an example:
If your goal is to increase your income by $1,000 by the end of this year you have to increase your monthly pay by $84/month. This breaks down to $21/week and $3/day.
Is this a realistic goal? No doubt! You could easily increase your income by $2,000 if you wanted to. There are many ways to achieve this including getting a part-time job, starting a side hustle, and so on, but no matter how you get it done the underlying principle is the same. As long as you bring in an additional $3/day for 365 days you will hit your goal!
Now this sounds pretty easy, right? Well, it is and it isn’t. To achieve your goal you have to break it down into clear monthly, weekly, and daily objectives, however, if this was all it took most people would have achieved their goals by now, but we know that only 8% of people achieve their goals. So what is the missing link? Consistent accountability!
response-ability.”
Ask any successful person how they attained success and they will tell you they had a team, coach, mentor, or a community of people who believed in them and held them accountable to follow through with their goals.
It’s easy to think that your goals will keep you motivated, you don’t need external support, and this is a new year, new you, but the truth is if you could achieve your goal(s) on your own, you would have done it already.
This is because, as much as we don’t like to admit it sometimes, we need each other. In the book of proverbs, it’s explained like this “as iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”. When you subject yourself to quality accountability you open the door to gaining greater understanding, clear insights that you can’t currently see, and deeper wisdom.
Without accountability, you will end up tripping over the same obstacles presented in new ways (until you address them) and you’ll continue to self-sabotage without understanding why. Trust me, I’ve been there and done that!
As much as I love personal development and I was reading new things to expand my mind, the old familiar way of behaving was still ingrained in me. I still had destructive subconscious beliefs that were holding me back like “if I become successful people will reject me, try to use me…” and so on. So because I subconsciously believed this for years when I started going after my goals I would unintentionally self-sabotage.
Here’s an example:
After being consistent and sticking to my goals for months, as soon as I started to see results I would slow down and not pursue the goal as much. I noticed this pattern in almost everything that I pursued and it wasn’t until I became aware of the lies I had stored in my subconscious that I was able to address them (not just dismiss them) by actually digging them up and working through them. After this process, I was able to sustain progressive success.
Turn this year into your year of action by choosing to address your junk. Clean up your subconscious beliefs, find out why you keep stumbling over the same obstacles and get rid of everything that isn’t helping you to get to your destination. It’s time to kick those familiar habits in the butt and get the ball rolling on your goals. Trust me, if I could do it, so can you! Until next time, xo!
